Surplus wire buying in Twin Falls, Idaho

The commercial center of the Magic Valley, where Snake River water, dairy and food processing meet on the canyon rim.

Twin Falls is the retail and service center of the Magic Valley, sitting on the north rim of the Snake River canyon. Irrigated ground below the rim grows potatoes, sugar beets, corn and alfalfa; above it sit the dairy, cheese, cold storage and processing plants that turn that production into freight. The industrial areas are wide and flat, and a plant upgrade moves a lot of cable through a yard in a hurry.

Continuous processing, cold storage and the canyon-rim industrial base

Processing in Twin Falls runs around the clock and gets rebuilt in pieces. A line changeover brings in new motor feeders, VFD cable and instrument runs from a panel to a sensor, while the old cable comes out as partial reels and coils with good wire inside and a jacket printed with a rating nobody bothers to read any more.

Washdown areas are the hardest on cable and the most common source of it: SOOW cord with a nick in the jacket, tray cable pulled out of a wet room, grounding conductor cut short one time too many. Cold storage work adds seal-tight fittings and low-temperature flex, and the expansion joints on freezer panels make the cut lengths useless anywhere else.

Logistics

US-93 runs north out of Twin Falls to I-84 near the canyon, about eight miles, and US-30 crosses town east-west. A rail line serves the industrial ground on the north side. The plants mostly have docks with levelers and wide paved aprons, while the older warehouse blocks near downtown are grade-level and tight. Crosswinds on the plain are strong in spring and will lift loose material off an open deck, and summer heat makes a closed trailer the better choice for anything with a soft jacket. Photograph the reel and its tag, the jacket legend, and the loading face of the building so the access is clear before dispatch.
