Frequently asked questions

What we buy, how the quoting works, which photos actually help, and how material gets from your yard to somewhere else.

What we buy

Scope and material

What kinds of electrical wire do you buy?

Copper and aluminum building wire, industrial cable, control and instrumentation cable, low-voltage and communication cable, and medium or high-voltage cable. That covers THHN, THWN, THWN-2, XHHW, XHHW-2, bare and insulated copper, welding cable, MC, AC, tray cable, VFD cable, TC/TC-ER, PLTC, SER, SEU, URD, USE-2, SOOW and flexible cord.

Do you buy transformers, switchgear, breakers or generators?

No. This business buys wire and cable only. If your lot includes equipment, describe the wire separately — that is the part we can quote.

What voltages do you buy?

From 600V building wire up through 5kV, 8kV, 15kV, 25kV, 35kV and 69kV+ cable when it is available. Medium and high-voltage reels are quoted on the same details: voltage class, conductor size, insulation, shield and footage.

Which sizes?

#14, #12, #10, #8, #6, #4, #2, #1, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, 4/0, 250, 300, 350, 400, 500, 600, 750 and 1000 MCM are all common. Anything between those is worth asking about.

Do you buy used or damaged wire?

Sometimes. Used, weathered and damaged material is still quotable, but condition affects the number and we would rather see the worst reel than the best one. Describe damage honestly and photograph it.

Quoting and pricing

Quoting and pricing

How is surplus wire priced?

Conductor metal, size and conductor count, insulation and voltage class, footage remaining, condition, and the cost of moving it. Those factors decide the number, and we discuss the number with you directly rather than publishing a rate that would not hold.

How long does a quote take?

It depends on the material and how complete the photos are. A reel with a legible tag and a clear wide shot takes less back-and-forth than a mixed pile with no labels. We will tell you if we need something else before we can price it.

Is there a minimum quantity?

No published minimum. Large lots are easier to justify moving across Idaho, and small lots are still worth a conversation — especially when they are near other material we are already collecting.

Does requesting a quote commit me to anything?

No. Sending details and photos starts a conversation. Nothing is agreed until both sides confirm the material, the price and the logistics.

Photos and paperwork

Photos and paperwork

What photos should I send?

A wide shot of the whole stack or row of reels, the reel tag photographed flat and readable, the jacket legend printed on the wire, and the cut end so the conductor and insulation are visible. Phone photos are fine.

What if the reel tag is missing or faded?

Photograph the print on the jacket instead. Building wire carries its type, size and voltage on the insulation for exactly this reason, and it is usually enough to identify the material.

Do you need test reports or certifications?

No. We work from the tag, the construction and the condition you describe. If you have records, mention them, but their absence does not stop a conversation.

How many photos can I upload?

Up to twelve images through the quote form, up to twelve megabytes each. If a photo is too large, your phone can usually resize it, or you can email the files to the address below.

Pickup, shipping and coverage

Pickup, shipping and coverage

Do you pick up or do I ship?

Either can work. Pickup and shipping are arranged after pricing and terms are agreed. We will ask about dock access, forklift availability, gate hours and weight limits before anything moves.

Where in Idaho do you buy wire?

Statewide, from the Treasure Valley through the Magic Valley, eastern Idaho, the panhandle and the central mountain counties. The service area pages describe what tends to turn up in each region.

Do you have an office or yard in Idaho?

No. There is no public office, yard or storefront, and this site does not claim one. Wire is reviewed from your details and photos, and the material is collected once terms are agreed.

What if the wire is just across the state line?

Call (614) 715-3047 and ask before sending photos. Material on the Washington or Oregon side of a border town is often workable.

Still unsure

Ask a direct question

If the answer you need is not here, call or email. Describing a reel over the phone is usually faster than filling in a form you are unsure about.

Talk to a buyer before you move anything.

Email is best for photos. Include the reel tags, jacket legend and a wide shot of the whole stack.

Reels in the way? Send the tag photos.

Tell us the type, size, footage and voltage, and send a few photos of the reels, tags and jacket legend. We will review the material and talk through pricing and logistics.
