Surplus wire buying in Jerome, Idaho

A dairy and forage town in the Magic Valley, with cheese plants and irrigated corn ground on every side.

Jerome sits in the middle of the Magic Valley's dairy country, where corn silage, alfalfa and irrigated pasture feed large herds and the milk goes to plants in and around town. The economy is agricultural and industrial at once: dairies, forage operations, dairy processing and the trucking that ties them together. Surplus collects wherever a parlor, a pump panel or a processing line has been rebuilt.

Parlour wiring, washdown and the load behind a dairy

A dairy is a wet, corrosive environment with a large electrical load: vacuum pumps, milk pumps, crowd gates, fans and the compressors on the bulk tank. Most of that is fed in conduit with THHN or XHHW, and the equipment connections use SOOW cord and sealed connectors that fail long before the conductor inside them does.

When a parlor is remodelled, VFD cable and shielded control cable come out alongside ordinary branch-circuit wire, and drive upgrades strand spare cable that was bought for the old configuration. Forage and silage operations add another layer: augers, conveyors and scales, usually fed in tray cable and control cable run along the structure and out in the weather.

Logistics

I-84 has an interchange at Jerome, so the interstate is effectively at the town's edge, and Twin Falls is about ten miles south. Dairy and processing addresses are typically grade-level yards of gravel or packed dirt with room for a trailer to turn and no dock at all; some have a scale house with a check-in window. Manure and washdown water keep the ground wet all year, so a load may need to be staged on pallets before it is handled. Photograph the cable clear of the puddles, the reel tag and the jacket printing, since corrosion at the exposed conductor ends is what decides the value of a wet-environment lot.
