Surplus wire buying in Sandpoint, Idaho
A lake town in the northern panhandle, with timber, boat building and a recreation economy on Lake Pend Oreille.
Sandpoint sits at the north end of Lake Pend Oreille, where timber from the surrounding mountains has been cut and milled for a century and where boat building and recreation now employ a good share of the town. Sawmills, wood products plants and machine shops sit alongside marinas, lodges and second homes. The wire that turns up reflects that split.
Sawmill power, boat shops and hillside remodels
Mill work is heavy three-phase power: large motors, starters and feeders sized for saws and conveyors, run in conduit and tray through buildings that are wet, dusty and full of vibration. When a line is rebuilt the old feeders come out in long lengths, and the control wiring off the motor control center comes out as a tangle that has to be sorted by gauge before anyone can price it.
Boat yards and shops use a different set: SOOW cord for tools and hoists, welding cable for aluminum fabrication, and marine-grade DC cable in odd sizes that matches nothing else on hand. Hillside remodels add small branch-circuit wire, usually in short pieces with the sheathing already stripped back.
Logistics
Sandpoint has no interstate. US-95 runs north-south through town and US-2 east-west, with I-90 about forty-five miles south at Coeur d'Alene, so the route out is surface streets and then two-lane highway, and loads are planned around daylight. Winter is the limitation: snow from November into March, grades on the north and east sides of town, and a delay for anything heavy when the pass is bad. Many addresses are grade-level with limited turning, and some hillside driveways cannot take a trailer at all. Photograph the reel, the tag, the access and the grade.
