Aluminum

Aluminum wire and cable

Service entrances, feeders and underground distribution. Aluminum is lighter than copper and cheaper by the foot, which is exactly why warehouses end up holding more of it than they can use.

Where aluminum turns up in Idaho

Service-entrance cable (SER and SEU), underground residential distribution cable (URD), direct-burial USE-2, and aluminum XHHW-2 in feeder sizes. Agricultural services, rural commercial buildings and utility distribution work all produce aluminum leftovers.

Modern aluminum building wire is AA-8000 series alloy, which behaves very differently from the older AA-1350 conductor that caused the termination problems people still remember.

What we buy

  • Aluminum XHHW and XHHW-2, full reels or partial
  • SER and SEU service-entrance cable
  • URD and USE-2 direct-burial cable
  • Aluminum THHN in feeder sizes
  • Triplex and quadruplex overhead conductor where it is surplus

Be specific about the alloy and the type

Aluminum is not one material. Old AA-1350 conductor, AA-8000 building wire, and ACSR overhead conductor are three different things with three different values. The jacket print and the reel tag tell us which one you have, so photograph both.

What to send

Details that let us quote it properly

  • The type: XHHW-2, SER, SEU, URD, USE-2 or THHN
  • Size and conductor count
  • Alloy if the tag states it
  • Footage, and how much is left on the reel
  • Whether the cable is direct-burial rated
  • A photo of the tag and the full reel

Email photos to saleselectricalbuyers@gmail.com or add them to the form below. Either way, keep the tag and the jacket legend readable.

Do you buy aluminum URD?

Yes, in full and partial reels. Note the size and whether it is triplex, quadruplex or single conductor.

Is old aluminum wire still quotable?

It is, but identify it honestly. Older alloy conductor is valued differently from current AA-8000 building wire.

Quote Aluminum wire or cable

Choose the category that matches your material, then fill in the size, footage and condition as closely as you can.

1. Who is sending this

2. Where the wire is

3. What the wire is

4. Details and access

5. Photos of the wire

Up to 12 images, 12 MB each. Most phones are set to shoot more than that, so resize if a photo is rejected.

  • A wide shot of the whole stack or row of reels
  • The reel tag or label, photographed flat and readable
  • The jacket legend printed on the wire
  • The cut end, so the conductor and insulation are visible

Submitting does not commit you to anything. If photos will not upload, email them to saleselectricalbuyers@gmail.com or call (614) 715-3047.

Reels in the way? Send the tag photos.

Tell us the type, size, footage and voltage, and send a few photos of the reels, tags and jacket legend. We will review the material and talk through pricing and logistics.
